Last updated 16 October 2026
The short version
- Chukta is free. We offer it as it is, without any guarantee.
- You’re responsible for what you enter, and for checking it.
- Chukta never moves money. Payments happen in your own UPI app; Chukta only records the ones you confirm.
- Be decent: don’t use Chukta to break the law or to harm anyone.
- You can delete your account at any time.
By signing in, you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains what data we collect and why.
Who we are
Chukta is run by Himanshu Kukreja, an individual based in India. “We” and “us” in these terms mean him. You can reach us at [email protected].
Your account
- You need to be 18 or older to use Chukta.
- You sign in with your Google account. Keep it secure: anyone who can sign in to it can see and change your Chukta groups.
- One account per person, and only for yourself.
A free service, with no warranty
Chukta costs nothing and has no ads. We work hard to keep it accurate and running, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”: we don’t promise it will always be available, free of bugs, or that it will never lose data. We may change, pause or stop parts of the service, and we’ll give notice in the app where we reasonably can.
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss caused by mistakes in what was entered, by other people in your groups, or by a payment app. [CONFIRM: whether to add a cap on total liability (for example ₹1,000), and that this wording holds up under Indian consumer law for a free service]
What you enter
- You’re responsible for the expenses, amounts, names, notes and comments you add. Chukta does the maths exactly, but it can only work with what it’s given, so check balances before you pay anyone.
- Only add friends you actually share costs with, and only their name and an email address they use. The people in a group can see what’s in it.
- What you enter stays yours. You let us store it and show it to the people you share it with, only so that Chukta works.
- Disagreements about who owes what are between you and your friends. We can’t settle them and we don’t take sides.
Chukta doesn’t move money
Chukta isn’t a bank, a wallet or a payment service, and it never holds or sends money. When you settle up, Chukta opens your own UPI app (or shows a UPI ID and QR code) with the amount filled in. The payment happens entirely in that app, under its terms and your bank’s. Afterwards Chukta asks whether it went through and records the payment only if you say yes. If a payment fails, goes to the wrong person or is disputed, take it up with your UPI app or bank.
Acceptable use
Please don’t use Chukta to:
- break the law, or keep accounts for fraud or other crimes;
- harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, or add people without a good reason;
- post content that’s abusive, hateful or that you don’t have the right to share;
- try to get at other people’s data, get around security, overload the service, or scrape it with bots;
- copy or resell the service.
If an account breaks these rules, we may limit or close it. Where we reasonably can, we’ll tell you why first.
Other services
Chukta relies on services run by others, such as Google sign-in and your UPI app. Their own terms apply when you use them. Chukta is an independent app and isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Splitwise, Google or any UPI app.
Deleting your account
You can stop using Chukta at any time. To delete your account, go to Profile → Delete account in the app, or email us. Your name, email, photo and UPI ID are removed. Expenses you shared stay for the others as “Deleted user”, so their balances stay correct. The privacy policy has the details.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes we’ll also tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Chukta after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute goes to the courts of [CONFIRM: city, for example New Delhi], India. Please write to us first; most things can be sorted out by email.
